Your athourity is not recognized in Fort Kickass.

I'm still here!

Things have been on hold a bit, as I eagerly await funds for construction.  I've tweaked my plans a bit, taking out the larger shelf going over the bed.  It's just a bit complicated and unnecessary.

I've also named the camper.  Since the van is called Krieger, "Fort Kickass" just seemed appropes.

In a moment of karmic magic, a local tool lending library opened up this weekend, so I'll be able to access the tools I need for a $12 month membership fee plus about $.10/day for the tools I need.  It's pretty exciting, so be sure to check them out!  http://www.boisetoollibrary.com/

The plans for this coming weekend are as follows:
Tear up the nasty old poorly installed floor mat and padding in the back of the van, clean up whatever grossness I find underneath, lay down some plywood, box in the wheel wells, and sew up some curtains.  If that doesn't take the whole weekend, I'll get the lumber to build up the bed frame first.  I'm using the wheel well boxes to support part of the bed, so I'm not entirely sure how tall it's going to be yet.

I want to have the bed part at least done in time for Nerd Camp the weekend of the 22nd.

I've also been looking into options for screens for the windows and doors. Anyone who's climbed into a car that has sat in the sun all day during the summer knows it's not super pleasant, so I need to figure out a solution to the air flow problem.  I'm currently looking at getting one of these puppies and modifying it for the sliding door across from the bed after reading a post on a van conversion message board (http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=506399) that suggested it as a good solution.

I'll likely do something simple using mesh and magnets to screen in the front windows, and that should certainly suffice for now.

The simplest, easiest method of having screens I've found.:

Eventually, I want to get a Tail Veil for the back end when I complete the kitchen area, but I'm getting the bare essentials out of the way first, and that is DEFINITELY not in the current budget

I'll post progress shots this weekend as I start ripping up the floor.
